Conveniently located in central Waterloo, the University neighbourhood is made up of a mixture of school facilities, varied student housing opportunities and tons of amenities.

Both the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University are located right in the neighbourhood, making this area popular with students and faculty alike.

This is a vibrant neighbourhood, with an abundance of students living both on and off campus. We’ve seen a massive transformation of the skyline over the last decade here in University, where single-detached properties are being replaced with large condo developments. Overall the neighbourhood is still pretty diverse with a mix of high, mid and low-rise apartments, townhomes and plenty of single detached homes still sprinkled within.

Getting around is a breeze, thanks to the multiple bus routes and the LRT running central between the two schools. But spend time in the area and you’ll see most residents choose to get around on foot since the neighbourhood is extremely walkable. As well-served as it is by transit, it's even better served with amenities. The area has exploded with various businesses in the last few years as these large condo towers offer retail space on the main floors. Multiple plazas throughout the neighbourhood offer more restaurant options than you could imagine, grocery stores, entertainment and more.

The area is also home to several parks and green spaces, and is walking distance to Waterloo Park, which features walking trails, picnic areas, and sports fields. Other nearby amenities include the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex, which has a pool, fitness center, and ice rinks, and the Laurel Creek Conservation Area, which offers hiking trails and a beach area.

Overall, the University neighbourhood in Waterloo is a pleasant and convenient area to live, with easy access to amenities and most areas of the surrounding city.
