In the south east corner of Waterloo, you’ll find the wonderful neighbourhood of University Downs.
This neighbourhood is a great choice for young singles and retirees, but is especially popular with families. Close to schools, parks, amenities and the expressway, this area offers great convenience for those on the go.
This is a friendly and lively community with plenty of activities going on thanks to an active community association. Neighbours have enjoyed community-wide garage sales, softball games and an annual party in the park. Speaking of parks - residents can enjoy spending time at the numerous parks within the neighbourhood, and have both Bechtel Park and Kiwanis Park only minutes away.
The properties in the neighbourhood are as diverse as the individuals who call it home; ranging from rental apartments to detached homes and everything in between. With stacked and 2-storey townhomes, war-time homes and bungalows on sprawling lots backing onto the Grand River, there are a variety of styles for all tastes and needs. While most of the homes in the area were built in the 90s, some date back to the early 1900s and add much character to the neighbourhood.
Public school students in the neighbourhood will attend Bridgeport Public School for grades JK-6, moving on to Margaret Avenue Public School for grades 7-8, and finally heading to Bluevale Collegiate Institute to achieve their high school education. Catholic students will attend St. Matthew’s Elementary School for JK-8 before moving onto high school at St. David’s Catholic School.
